Scooters can give Hunters Unfair Advantage

Off‑road electric scooters are giving hunters an unfair advantage!

Modern models come with big mud tires, high‑torque motors, and silent drivetrains that let riders creep along trails and slip through wildlife habitat without being heard. I’ve already seen people using them, and every time they do, wildlife disappears — and doesn’t return.

These machines are small, lightweight, and easy to lift over obstacles. They can go down any path, across islands, and through river corridors. There should be restrictions on their use. At minimum, they should be required to make a certain amount of sound, or be prohibited during hunting season and on sensitive trails.

Right now they’re being used for silent scouting, silent poaching, trail‑cam loops, and daily disturbance. The result is wildlife displacement, small‑mammal collapse, deer pushed out, ducks and geese reacting, and entire stretches of river going quiet. They can cover more ground than a boat — and do it silently. That’s why I’m seeing wildlife vanish.

About Dave Tackett

I take Rock River Photos from my boat, all hand held in full manual. I use an R5II and 2 R5 cameras with rf 100-500 and ef 300 II. I also fish some, but spend most of my time drifting. I drift near Sterling Rock Falls and the Mississippi River pool 13 & 14.
