Dave Tackett is the photographer behind Rock River Photos

I take photos of wildlife by drifting down river or trolling backwaters. All photos are taken hand held from a moving boat using full manual settings with my R5 cameras and now upgraded to a R5II, using an RF 100-500 lens, an ef 300II and ef 100-400. The older photos before 2022 were taken with canon 7dII, 7d or 50d. They photo quality is much better with the Nr R5 and R5II.

About the Photos

The photos are taken near Sterling Rock falls and Clinton Fulton areas. I cover the southern pool on the Rock River along with the Sterling/Dixon pool. I also gets photos and fish around pool 13 and 14 on the Mississippi Rivers.

My gear is Canon cameras and cannon and sigma lens. I have been taking photos with a DSLR camera since 2010. I enjoy it so much that I don’t fish as much anymore because getting photos is much more rewarding with more than just memories, the photos are infinite.

I have had several websites in the past, including FisheadTackle, Fishead Cartoons, DaveTackett.com and Davtackett.com. Self taught in website building, graphics art and photography. You can also find my fishing cartoons and photos, in which I have a large collection of both.

Also see fishing videos and photos from places like Lake Erie, the Smoky mountains and other vacation photos. I fish for Walleye and Bass and used to fish tournaments of both. With tournaments comes fame, and with fame comes followers which is not wanted. Anyone who does it all on their own will not be needing information from others and so I am reluctant to give away hard to find fishing holes.
