I started going to Lake Erie in 1993 and we went every year for many years after. I returned in 2010 with my brother to get some video. Fishing was great!

My brother doesn’t fish much, just when we were kids he went a few times, so he was able to have a guide take him out, who was me. We met at Port Clinton, took the ferry out to Middle Bass and stayed at St Hazards in a villa. We fished all around the islands the first day trying to find Walleye because I wanted to get some video footage. You just never know from year to year or day to day where the fish going to be. You can find some spread out all over, but trying to get a few in one spot while trying to stay away from the crowds can be hard. I did find fish while trolling crankbaits down deep and sometimes up shallow. We caught so many fish we were both wore out and ready to leave early.

The Walleye spawn in the rivers by Detroit and Toledo. They then swim along the south shore to the main lake where its deeper and has cooler water. One week can be critical on locating fish as they move on through. That’s not the fish I go after. I go after smaller schools of fish that head through the Bass Islands or north of there. I like to stay away from the crowds and just look for big fish spread out. If I don’t catch any, I can always go Bass fishing to pick me up.
