1968: When I was about 14 we lived by the Rock River and I fished there quite a bit. I mostly caught Suckers, Carp and Eels. After a few days of rain I decided to go camp along the river. I threw a trap up, laid a blanket down and fished. The river was rising fast, up about 6 feet so my tent was right next to the river. I caught a couple dozen nightcrawlers and fished, but I wasn’t catching anything so I went to sleep with my pole in my hand, line wrapped around a finger.
About midnight I felt a tug, woke up and pulled in a nice catfish with only about 6′ of line out, right next to shore, 2′ from my tent. I fell back to sleep, and was awakened by another nice Catfish. I did this all night and by morning I had a nice stringer of big Channel Catfish.
