It was a cold winter and there were lots of Bald Eagles at the Lower Dam. I got so many photos I had to spit them up to 7 pages, around 30 photos per page. These were taken with my Canon 7dII and an ef 100-400 mm canon lens. Later in 2022 I did upgrade to the R5 mirrorless cameras.
With an early cold snap and cold January start, the Eagles were around in great numbers feeding on the dying shad coming over the dam. I was trying new places as the presence of humans were driving them away from the dam area. If people would be patient, they eagles will become active and put on a show for them, but they are impatient and tend to chase after the Eagles.
They just can’t resist, they see dozens of eagles on the point resting and occasionally feeding on shad coming over the dam, so they give chase. It happens so much, it can help the lower dam photography because they are forced to take flight. But people are relentless and they drive the eagles away. Si I was trying new areas around the park and down river. I do not chase after them, I find places to sit, sometimes hide, and wait.
